Andris Eglītis

The 3rd Purvītis Prize for achievements in visual arts in Latvia was awarded on 15 February 2013 to pavement artist Andris Eglītis for his solo exhibition ''Zemes darbi'' (Soil Works) ar the Mūkusala Art Salon (02.09.-08.10.2011.).

Andris Eglītis (1981) lives and works in Riga. He graduated from the Jānis Rozentāls Riga Art High School and the Department of Painting at the Art Academy of Latvia. He has also studied at the Ilya Repin St. Petersburg Academy of Arts in Russia, where he earned a Master's degree in art in 2005. Eglītis is currently a lecturer in the Department of Painting at the Art Academy of Latvia and is also doing post-graduate work at the Higher Institute for Fine Arts (HISK) in Ghent, Belgium. He has organized eight solo exhibitions since 2005, all of which were significant events in the art world. He has also participated in many group exhibitions in Latvia and abroad and has been nominated for the Purvītis Award several times. Eglītis crosses ever more limitations of the plane with his convincing experiments within the traditional technique and media of painting.
